Pantsuits have been one of the hottest red-carpet trends in the past year, and Scarlett Johansson just put a unique twist on the look that takes it to a new level.

The actress hit the "Avengers: Endgame" UK Fan Event in London on Wednesday wearing a black ensemble by Tom Ford that was a business-chic suit on the right and a daring bustier on the left.

Her outfit combined a one-sleeved blazer with a cutout bustier for an asymmetrical take on the "no shirt" trend that's taking over the red carpet.

It's unclear if the top is a custom one-piece design or multiple pieces put together, but Tom Ford is currently selling a similar cutout bustier for $2,490.

Johansson completed the look with black trousers and heels. She also went with a bold scarlet lip color and a slicked-back updo.

She was later joined by fellow co-stars Paul Rudd and Chris Hemsworth, who both wore dark suits with subtle patterns.

  • The Avengers assembled on the red carpet Monday night for the world premiere of "Avengers: Endgame."
  • Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel, and Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow, both wore jewelry designed to look like the six Infinity Stones.
  • But there were differences between Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet in "Infinity War" and the placement of the actresses' gems.

Brie Larson's and Scarlett Johansson's jewelry gave fans a thrill on the red carpet at Monday's "Avengers: Endgame" premiere in Los Angeles.

All the "Avengers" stars looked extremely sharp at the event, though some style choices stood out. Most notably, Larson and Johansson both wore jewelry designed to look like the six Infinity Stones.

Larson, who plays the Marvel Cinematic Universe's newest and most powerful superhero, Captain Marvel, posted a photo of her left hand on social media with the caption "Snapped"— likely a reference to the disastrous events of "Avengers: Infinity War," caused by one snap of Thanos' fingers.

Larson commissioned her bejeweled look from Irene Neuwirth, a jewelry designer based in Los Angeles.

Neuwirth posted a photo on Instagram of the Infinity Gauntlet that inspired her design, which has notable differences from the Gauntlet that Thanos wields in "Avengers: Infinity War."

In the film, Thanos collects the yellow Mind Stone last and places it in the center of the glove. Additionally, on Larson's hand, the blue Space Stone and the orange Soul Stone, as well as the purple Power Stone and the red Reality Stone, are swapped.

Johansson, who plays Black Widow, wore similarly beautiful jewelry that was similarly scrambled.

Instead of a blue stone, her index finger bore a silver gem. Her central gem was orange rather than yellow, and only the green Time Stone was in its proper place.

Despite the differences, however, fans went wild for the actresses' subtle shout-outs to their characters' missions.

Scarlett Johansson's 'Avengers: Endgame' fitness routine involved carb-cycling, 12-hour fasts, and military presses

  • To play Black Widow in "Avengers: Endgame," Scarlett Johansson had to be in incredibly good shape.
  • Her personal trainer, Eric Johnson, has explained how she got so strong and fit in preparation for the role.
  • Johansson trained like an elite athlete, with a focus on weight-lifting.
  • As for her diet and nutrition, Johansson carb-cycled, meaning she adjusted her carb intake depending on how she was training on any given day.
  • She also followed time-restricted eating, fasting for at least 12 hours a day.
  • Visit INSIDER's homepage for more stories.

In the newly-released blockbuster "Avengers: Endgame," Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha Romanoff, AKA Black Widow, a trained fighter with incredible strength and combat skills.

Needless to say, portraying the character required Johansson to get her body into incredible shape, and her personal trainer has now revealed exactly how she did it.

Eric Johnson is the co-founder of Homage Fitness, a line of gyms in private residences across Miami, New York, and D.C. designed to combine top level fitness with hospitality. He's also Johansson's PT.

To prepare for the role, he said the actor focused on strength and functional movement — they took the approach of training an athlete, rather than thinking about aesthetics.

Read more: Here's why Scarlett Johansson's personal trainers suggest always eating dark chocolate before a workout

"We treated the process like an athlete preparing for competition," Johnson told Harper's Bazaar. "By placing more emphasis on her performance, her physique just followed."

This manifested itself as mainly strength-training, incorporating aspects of yoga, plyometrics, kettlebells, gymnastics, and Olympic weight-lifting.

Eric Johnson

Medicine ball throws, core work, and bear crawls all featured heavily, but Johnson said Johansson's favourite moves were mainly fundamental compound lifts, such as pull-ups, deadlifts, and military presses.

Johnson also made sure there was plenty of mobility work involved, and given he has previously told INSIDER he thinks burpees are largely useless, we imagine Johansson wasn't made to do any.

"We worked to not only challenge her body to adapt, but also stimulate her mind,"  Johnson said.

Read more: Scarlett Johansson's personal trainers say burpees are a waste of time — here's what you should be doing instead

Of course, if you're going to train like an athlete you need your nutrition to match, too.

To fuel her fitness, Johansson employed a concept called carb-cycling, which, in its simplest form, essentially means altering the amount of carbs you're consuming on any given day depending on how much and what type of exercise you're doing, and thus how much energy your body requires.

"She cycled through days of high carbohydrates and low fat consumption, versus low carbohydrates and higher fat while maintaining protein intake," Johnson said.

Johansson also ate in a time-restricted window, keeping her overnight fasting window at 12 hours minimum, sometimes increasing it to 14 or 15 hours.

None of this was a quick fix programme for Johansson, though — it took time to build her strength and fitness, and Johnson said she followed this training regime and lifestyle for "a year or so."

5 times 'Avengers' stars spoiled 'Endgame' before the movie came out

  • Warning: There are spoilers ahead for "Avengers: Endgame."
  • It's no secret that Marvel goes to great lengths to keep movie details under wraps.
  • The actors are warned about what they're not allowed to spoil during interviews, but they occasionally slip up.
  • Prior to the release of "Endgame," Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sebastian Stan, and Michael Douglas revealed more than they should have about the movie. Some details went unnoticed at the time, but have been pointed out by fans since the movie was released on April 26.
  • Visit INSIDER's homepage for more stories.

"Avengers: Endgame" is the result of years of films and shows the remaining characters teaming up in an effort to bring back the fallen heroes following the events of "Avengers: Infinity War."

It's also no secret that Marvel goes to great lengths to avoid secrets about the films slipping out. The stars are trained on how to avoid directly answering questions that give away plot details, but sometimes they slip up and share spoilers.

Some actors are notorious for their loose lips, like Mark Ruffalo and Tom Holland. Others, like Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr., are less likely to reveal things about the top-secret movies.

With "Endgame" now in theaters, INSIDER rounded up the five "Avengers" stars who revealed things about the film that they probably shouldn't have.

Gwyneth Paltrow alluded to Pepper Potts' new fighting suit over a year ago.

Based on the comics, people speculated that Pepper would don a new outfit and use it under the alias Rescue. The theory was further fueled after a leaked image from the set showed Paltrow wearing purple armor.

Paltrow herself hinted at the suit, which she wore while fighting alongside Tony Stark in "Endgame," during an appearance on CBS' "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" in January 2018.

At the time, Paltrow was asked if she'll have superpowers in "Infinity War" or "Endgame." She didn't say much, but the actress confirmed that she did some CGI work and was required to wear a motion capture suit.

In October 2018, Michael Douglas, who plays Dr. Hank Pym, said that the Quantum Realm was "the key" to "Endgame."

The "Ant-Man" sequel was released in July 2018 (three months after "Avengers: Infinity War") and had an end-credits scene that showed Scott Lang/Ant-Man getting stranded in the Quantum Realm as Hope Van Dyne, Dr. Hank Pym, and Janet Van Dyne (played by Michelle Pfeiffer) got turned to dust because of Thanos' snap. The inclusion of that scene made it clear that "Ant-Man and the Wasp" and "Infinity War" were both happening at the same time.

When Douglas spoke to Ryan Seacrest a few months after "Ant-Man 2," it wasn't a spoiler when he mentioned that the movie was connected to the fourth "Avengers" film. But saying that "the Quantum Realm plays an important part in all the next chapters, I think, of the Marvel films" was very telling about the plot of "Endgame," which was under wraps at that point.

Fans didn't get solid insight into the plot for the movie, let alone the official title, until Marvel dropped the first trailer in December 2018. Even then, the trailer didn't mention the Quantum Realm, though it revealed that Scott was somehow able to get out and find the Avengers at their headquarters.

The Quantum Realm turned out to be the driving force behind the Avengers' "time heist" mission in "Endgame," and it enabled them to travel back in time to get the Infinity Stones.

Loose-lipped Mark Ruffalo revealed the emotional ending of the movie weeks ago during an interview with "E! News."

In the interview, which was released in early April, Ruffalo was joined by Chris Evans (Captain America/Steve Rogers) and Karen Gillan (Nebula) and spoke about his tendency to spill secrets.

"I didn't even get a whole script of this movie. I don't know why," Ruffalo said. "The script I did get had dummy scenes in it."

The actor went on to point at Evans and mention one of the scenes, which he clearly assumed was a fake one.

"He gets married in this!"Ruffalo said. Evans chimed in to say that his costar "is a real liability," which is why he was given false scenes.

"Endgame" proved that Ruffalo was actually speaking of a real story line.

At the end of the film, Steve went back in time via the Quantum Realm to return all of the Infinity Stones to their original timelines. He also stayed so he could marry Peggy Carter, finally dance with her, and grow old with her. When he returned to the present, he was much older and wore a wedding ring, but refused to tell Sam Wilson/Falcon who he wed.

'Avengers: Endgame' editor reveals how Black Widow's huge scene was dramatically changed

  • Warning: Major spoilers below if you have not seen "Avengers: Endgame."
  • Matthew Schmidt, an "Endgame" coeditor, explained how Black Widow's death scene was drastically changed in reshoots.
  • Originally, Black Widow and Hawkeye were to battle Thanos and his soldiers on Vormir before she sacrificed herself so her fellow Avenger could obtain the Soul Stone.
  • "It was reshot to make it more intimate between Clint and Natasha," Schmidt told Business Insider.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

One of the big moments of "Avengers: Endgame"— which audiences are still trying to get over emotionally — is the death of Scarlett Johansson's character, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), who dies so the Avengers can obtain the Soul Stone.

As all the superheroes split up in different moments in time and embark on a "time heist" to get all the Infinity Stones, Romanoff and Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton (Hawkeye) team up to nab the Soul Stone, on the planet Vormir. Realizing the only way to obtain the stone is by one of them sacrificing themselves and jumping off a cliff, each tries to stop the other from taking the plunge until finally Clint can't stop Natasha.

It's a scene that stays with you the rest of the movie. But that's not originally how Black Widow was to go out.

Matthew Schmidt, an "Endgame" coeditor, told Business Insider that originally the scene on Vormir involved Thanos and a lot more fighting.

Read more:10 of the biggest box-office flops of 2019 so far, including a pair from Matthew McConaughey

"On script and what we first shot was an excellent scene," Schmidt said. "Thanos and his soldiers show up on Vormir, and a small battle ensues between them and Natasha and Clint. Natasha decides to run off the cliff. Clint tries to stop her while also fending off the attack."

Schmidt said that test audiences had no objections to the scene but that over time the directors Anthony and Joe Russo and the other creative members behind "Endgame" decided to change things up drastically.

"It was reshot to make it more intimate between Clint and Natasha, which fully worked in the end version of the movie," Schmidt said. "We just came up with a better idea, something that serviced Natasha a little bit more."

And you haven't seen the last of Johansson as Black Widow. The actress is reportedly getting paid $15 million to star in a long-awaited stand-alone movie, currently in development.

And that's why so many people were taken aback when the huge new "Avengers" game was finally shown off on Monday night: The game features a cast that looks and sounds completely different from the version of the characters known around the world from the films.

So how different are they? We've put together a thorough comparison below — you be the judge.

Several of the stars in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have had issues with remembering that they've worked together before.

Gwyneth Paltrow was recently called out by both "Spider-Man" star Tom Holland and actor Sebastian Stan (who plays Bucky/Winter Soldier) for not remembering them. But even Mark Ruffalo forgot that he was in the movie "13 Going on 30" with Brie Larson years ago.

The truth is that many of the stars have been in films together outside of the MCU. Some of those films were released way before their Marvel debut, so it's understandable why they might forget.

Here are 32 times the actors have appeared in the same projects. Marvel stars, you're welcome.

Johansson (who played Black Widow) and Evans (Captain America) starred in "The Perfect Score" and in "The Nanny Diaries."

In 2004's "The Perfect Score," Johansson and Evans played high school students who tried to steal the answers to the SATs.

Three years later, Evans played Johansson's love interest in "The Nanny Diaries."

Scarlett Johansson defends her comments about 'politically correct' casting and says backlash was thanks to 'click bait'

  • Scarlett Johansson has revived the controversy surrounding her decision to portray a transgender man, one year after she dropped out of the role amidst intense backlash.
  • "As an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job," Johansson said in a new interview with As If magazine.
  • Critics say Johansson has failed to grasp the root of the issue.
  • In a statement provided to INSIDER, Johansson said her interview was "edited for click bait and is widely taken out of context."
  • "I personally feel that, in an ideal world, any actor should be able to play anybody and art, in all forms, should be immune to political correctness," she said. "That is the point I was making, albeit didn't come across that way."
  • Visit INSIDER's homepage for more stories.

Scarlett Johansson recently said that she's entitled to play any role onscreen, one year after she was lambasted for a "tone-deaf" reaction to her casting as a transgender man.

"As an actor I should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal because that is my job and the requirements of my job," Johansson said in a new interview with As If magazine.

The "Avengers: Endgame" actress, whose interview was published as Q&A with artist David Salle, said there's a current "trend" with casting in Hollywood: "Today there's a lot of emphasis and conversation about what acting is and who we want to see represent ourselves on screen."

"I feel like it's a trend in my business and it needs to happen for various social reasons," Johansson said, "yet there are times it does get uncomfortable when it affects the art because I feel art should be free of restrictions."

"There are a lot of social lines being drawn now, and a lot of political correctness is being reflected in art," she added.

In a statement provided to INSIDER, Johansson said her interview was "edited for click bait and is widely taken out of context."

"I personally feel that, in an ideal world, any actor should be able to play anybody and art, in all forms, should be immune to political correctness," she said. "That is the point I was making, albeit didn't come across that way."

"I recognize that in reality, there is a widespread discrepancy amongst my industry that favors Caucasian, cis gendered actors and that not every actor has been given the same opportunities that I have been privileged to," she continued, adding that she supports "diversity in every industry."

ghost in the shell

The new controversy comes almost exactly one year after Johansson dropped out of playing a transgender man onscreen.

In July 2018, reports surfaced that Johansson was slated to star in a biopic about Dante "Tex" Gill, a trans man and '70s crime kingpin. The film was to be directed by Rupert Sanders, who directed Johansson's much-maligned "Ghost in the Shell," an adaptation of a legendary Japanese manga that was widely condemned for whitewashing its main character.

When the news immediately sparked backlash, particularly from the LGBTQ community, Johansson issued a statement that deflected all questions about the issue.

"Tell them that they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman's reps for comment," her representative told Bustle, referring to cisgender actors who have played trans characters in "Transparent,""Dallas Buyers Club," and "Transamerica," respectively.

Shortly after, Johansson dropped out of the role. She told Out magazine that her original statement was "insensitive" and claimed she understood why many people objected to her casting.

"Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I've learned a lot from the community," she said. "I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood continues."

Read more:Scarlett Johansson has dropped out of movie 'Rub and Tug' after backlash against her playing a transgender man

When the As If interview was published, critics accused Johansson of continuing to ignore or misunderstand the root of the issue.

Many responded to point out that, while actors do have the "right" to take on diverse roles, this motto almost exclusively benefits white, cisgender, able-bodied actors.

As journalist Dean Van Nguyen noted, trans actors are rarely considered for cisgender roles. Similarly, actors of color have historically been relegated to side-kick parts or tokenized stereotypes — while stories about people of color are freely populated by white people onscreen.

Several people tweeted that because there's already a lack of inclusive casting opportunities in Hollywood, LGBTQ people should at least be given the chance to tell their own stories.

Others posted they were especially angry that Johansson appeared to lump trans people into the same category with trees and animals.

Read Johansson's full statement provided to INSIDER below.

An interview that was recently published has been edited for click bait and is widely taken out of context. The question I was answering in my conversation with the contemporary artist, David Salle, was about the confrontation between political correctness and art. I personally feel that, in an ideal world, any actor should be able to play anybody and Art, in all forms, should be immune to political correctness. Nearly two months after announcing her engagement to "Saturday Night Live" star Colin Jost, Scarlett Johansson finally showed off her engagement ring over the weekend.

On Saturday, Johansson attended Comic-Con in San Diego, California, to speak during the Marvel Studios Panel. While onstage, the "Black Widow" actor seemingly debuted her ring, which features a dark, pear-shaped diamond and a matching brown band.

While this is the first time Johansson has publicly worn the ring, Page Six reported that she also wore it while celebrating her engagement at upstate New york restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns in May.

The ring was likely created by designer James de Givenchy, the nephew of Givenchy's founder, Hubert de Givenchy, according to The Adventurine.

An image of de Givenchy's design was shared on the Instagram page of his luxury jewelry brand, Taffin.

Speaking to INSIDER, representatives for Rare Carat, a diamond search engine, said the ring is likely more than 10 carats and worth $450,000

"Rare Carat estimates Scarlett's ring will retail for $450,000," representatives for Rare Carat told INSIDER. "The diamond has great clarity, which is hard to find in a large, fancy colored diamond, especially a light brown."

Representatives for Rare Carat also said the "cutting style" of Johansson's diamond is "different to the norm."

"It is cut as an 'old cut,' which is an antique style of cutting," Rare Carat representatives said of the diamond. "You will notice an angular pear shape in the middle — that is an open culet, which is how they used to cut diamonds before modern cutting methods were developed."

Johansson's ring could be the same one seen on Taffin's Instagram page. If true, the ring might feature an 11 carat, Type IIA diamond.

According to representatives for Rare Carat, Johansson's ring could be "special" if it is a Type 11A diamond, as it would then have "no nitrogen impurities."

"If it is indeed a Type IIA diamond, that makes it special," Rare Carat represenatives said of Johansson's diamond. "Type IIA's are one of the rarest chemical structure types, and the most coveted."

Johansson became engaged to 'Saturday Night Live' actor Colin Jost in May

Johansson and Jost became engaged two years after meeting on the set of "Saturday Night Live." It is the third engagment for Johansson, who was previously married to Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011 and French journalist Romain Dauriac from 2014 to 2017.

Most recently, Johansson received backlash after telling As If magazine that she "should be allowed to play any person, or any tree, or any animal" because it is her "job."

Johansson later said in a statement sent to INSIDER that her interview was "edited for click bait" and "widely taken out of context."

Representatives for Scarlett Johansson and Taffin did not immediately reply to INSIDER's request for comment.

Scarlett Johansson opens up about Black Widow's 'Endgame' death: 'I was excited to die with honor'

Scarlett Johansson opened up about Black Widow's heartbreaking death that took place in "Avengers: Endgame."

"The finality of it was sad, but I was excited to die with honor," the actress said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

In the film, Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff traveled to Vormir with Hawkeye/ Clint Barton (played by Jeremy Renner) so they could retrieve the Soul Stone as part of a "time heist" mission to get all six Infinity Stones and reverse Thanos' actions. In order for the heroes to get the stone, they had to sacrifice someone they love. After Clint and Natasha fought over who should die, the latter character sacrificed herself so the others could be brought back from the snap.

"It felt in-character that she would sacrifice herself, of course for humanity but actually for her friends, for the people she loves," Johansson, who learned about her character's fate prior to filming 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War," told THR. "It was bittersweet."

Johansson, who made her first appearance as Black Widow in 2010's "Iron Man 2" and will star in an upcoming standalone movie, previously spoke about the death of her character during an interview with Yahoo Entertainment at San Diego Comic-Con in July.

"I thought it would make it easier, and then when I was standing there with Renner on the edge of the cliff, it wasn't easy at all," Johansson said.

She continued: "It was really, really sad. I just felt overwhelmingly sad about it. It just felt like a big loss. So no, it didn't make it any easier … I'm pretty sentimental, so I'd go, 'Guys, this is it!' And they're like, 'You're getting your own film, it's fine.' But I was like, 'It's not the same.'"

"It's brutal and sad, and it's bittersweet," she added.

After fans saw "Endgame," many criticized the death of Natasha and called it controversial because it furthered the story lines of the male characters. Natasha's sacrifice was also significant because she was the first female Avenger.

In response to the backlash, screenwriter Christopher Markus said that it made more sense for Natasha to make the sacrifice, instead of Clint.

"With Clint it would be a tragic beat, because he wants to get back with his family and it would deny him that," he told SYFY WIRE . "With Natasha, it's sad, but it's a deeply heroic beat."

He added: "That this is what she's been fighting for. She went from red in her ledger to the absolute peak of heroism. You have to go to her every time. It's a bigger, more satisfying, more monumental story beat."

Fans will get to see Johansson reprise her superhero role in "Black Widow," which hits theaters on May 1, 2020 and focuses on Natasha's life following the events of "Captain America: Civil War." She'll be joined by David Harbour, Florence Pugh, O-T Fagbenle, and Rachel Weisz in the film.

Scarlett Johansson is getting paid as much for 'Black Widow' as her male Marvel costars — more than $15 million

Scarlett Johansson will be making more than $15 million for next year's "Black Widow" solo movie, putting her on par with the paydays of her "Avengers" costars Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth.

"Money is a taboo topic of conversation," Johansson told the Hollywood Reporter. "But I will say that, yes, I'm on an equal playing field with my male cohorts."

Earlier this spring, THR reported Johansson's salary for starring and producing in the spinoff would be a bit higher, in the $20 million range. Johannson is also getting to weigh in on the script and casting decisions.

It's not one the first time Johansson would be receiving equal pay to her male Marvel costars. In 2015, Variety reported Johansson was paid "roughly" the same amount as Evans and Hemsworth for "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (the second "Avengers" film).

Johansson is one of the top-leading women in Hollywood. She was recently named the highest-paid actress of the year by Forbes, earning an estimated $56 million. According to Forbes, Johansson received about an additional $35 million for "Avengers: Endgame" in back-end pay for the movie's $2.8 billion box-office haul.

The actress was also the highest-paid actress of 2018 and the top-grossing actress in 2016 by Forbes

scarlett johansson

"I am very fortunate, I make a really good living, and I'm proud to be an actress who's making as much as many of my male peers at this stage,"Johansson told the Cosmopolitan in 2016.

"I think every woman has [been underpaid], but unless I'm addressing it as a larger problem, for me to talk about my own personal experience with it feels a little obnoxious," she added.

Pay disparity is an issue for women in all industries, but Hollywood has really taken notice of the problem in recent years. Four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams was reportedly paid eight times less than her costar Mark Walhberg for "All the Money in the World," even though the two shared about an equal amount of screen time. Wahlberg donated his $1.5 million earnings from movie reshoots to the Time's Up campaign.

In addition to Johansson, Charlize Theron, Ellen Pompeo ("Grey's Anatomy"), Kaley Cuoco ("The Big Bang Theory" and "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood's" Margot Robbie are among the women who command big paychecks in Hollywood

Cuoco was making a reported $1 million per episode of CBS' "The Big Bang Theory" until the final season where she agreed on a pay cut to help her female costars Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik earn more.

Johansson will next be seen in this fall's "Jojo Rabbit.""Black Widow"will be in theaters May 1, 2020

Scarlett Johansson remembers the first time she met fiancé Colin Jost: 'He was very confident'

Scarlett Johansson noticed fiancé Colin Jost's confidence seven years before they actually started dating.

The actress met the "Saturday Night Live" star and writer while hosting the hit show for the third time in 2010. At the time, she actually starred in a skit that Jost came up with.

"It was some dumb parody that he had written, and he was in there partly directing this segment we had to do," Johansson recalled during a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter. "That's my first memory of him. He seemed very confident at the time. I don't know if he felt that way, but in that environment, if you're not confident as a writer, your stuff just never gets produced."

During the November 2010 episode, Johansson appeared in a sketch inspired by MTV's "Teen Mom,""16 and Pregnant," and "My Super Sweet 16." In it, the "Avengers" star wore a red dress and tiara while laying in a hospital bed and preparing to give birth (sporting a fake baby bump).

"I'm rich. I'm beautiful. And I'm fully dilated. And this is gonna be the greatest party ever!" she said in the skit.

Although Johansson's earliest memory of interacting with Jost took place in 2017, the "Weekend Update" host previously told "Entertainment Tonight" that they've "kind of known each other" since the actress first hosted the show in 2006.

Johansson and Jost reportedly didn't start dating until 2017. That year, the actress hosted "SNL" for the fifth time. According to Life & Style magazine, the pair were set up on a date by "SNL" costar Kate McKinnon sometime between March and May of 2017.

The stars made their first public appearance together in November 2017 at the American Museum of Natural History Gala. Since then, they've coupled up for the red carpet premiere for "Avengers: Infinity War," the 2018 Met Gala, and the 2018 Emmys.

In May 2019, Johansson's publicist announced that the couple got engaged. The actress' 11-carat engagement ring is estimated to be worth $450,000.

Scarlett Johansson has spoken out in support of director Woody Allen, saying she doesn't believe the sexual abuse allegations made against him and would "work with him anytime."

A number of celebrities, including Timothee Chalamet Colin Firth and Greta Gerwig, have distanced themselves from the filmmaker since his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow made the allegations against him.

But speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Johansson said: "I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he's very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him."

Johansson, who worked with the director on films "Match Point,""Scoop," and Vicky Cristina Barcelona," added: "I love Woody, I believe him, and I would work with him anytime."

Allen has always denied the allegations, which have been investigated twice by authorities and no charges brought.

In the same interview, Avengers star Johansson also said she would no longer talk about race or gender in film, after being criticized when she said she could "play any person, or any tree or any animal because that is my job."

The Nazi satire 'Jojo Rabbit' is a heartfelt coming-of-age comedy by the director of 'Thor: Ragnarok' that features an amazing performance by Scarlett Johansson

jojo rabbit foxsearchlight

  • Writer-director Taika Waititi ("Thor: Ragnarok") tells the story of a young German boy coming of age during the Nazi reign in "Jojo Rabbit."
  • It's a touching story filled with comedy that explores hate and bigotry.
  • And Scarlett Johansson as the boy's mother gives one of her best performances in recent memory.
  • Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

One of the joys of going to see a movie directed by Taika Waititi is that you never know what you'll get from it. Even his most mainstream movie to date, "Thor: Ragnarok," is one of the most unique stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

So it should come as no surprise that his latest movie, "Jojo Rabbit" (in theaters October 18), is so unique it's surprising it was even made in the first place.

Set in Germany during World War II, the story follows a 10-year-old boy named Jojo (played by Roman Griffin Davis) who is obsessed with all things Nazi and dreams of one day growing up to become part of Adolf Hitler's special security detail. But when Jojo heads off to a Nazi kids training program, it becomes apparent that Jojo does not have what it takes to be a true Nazi soldier. Even a pep talk from his imaginary friend, Hitler himself (played by Waititi), doesn't work out as Jojo, in a dramatic attempt to impress everyone, ends up getting injured trying to throw a grenade.

Stuck back at home with his mom (Scarlett Johansson) and an injured leg, he's relegated to helping out in the war by going around town and dropping off propaganda. Then his mind really gets messed up when he learns that his mother has been allowing a young Jewish girl to hide in their house.

Read more: "Knives Out" is a delightful whodunit from "The Last Jedi" director, who proves he can still make a great original story

Based on the book "Caging Skies" by Christine Leunens, Waititi has crafted a very singular coming-of-age tale. We follow Jojo as his hatred for his discovered house guest leads to an unlikely friendship. But to get to that place, Waititi doesn't hold back in exploring the mindless hate Jojo had been fed most of his life by the Nazi party.

It's all done in such an outlandish manner that you can't help but laugh, especially the scenes of Waititi as Hitler. That is Waititi's intention: to examine the absurdity of hate and bigotry through comedy.

Waititi also pulls at the heartstrings. Johansson's performance as the good-willed mother is one of her best in recent memory. To counteract the hate that her son has for the world, she uses comedy (funny one-liners, expressions, even tying his shoelaces together) and heightens the movie in every scene she's in.

Honestly, this movie will not be for everyone. But I wouldn't expect anything less from Waititi. It's that journey into the unknown with him that makes it exciting. If you're ready to throw caution to the wind, I suggest you give this one a try.

The business details:

  • In theaters October 18.
  • 108-minute running time.
  • Released by Fox Searchlight.

Comedian Amy Poehler, of "Parks and Recreation" fame, says she's "not a real social media person," and largely avoids its altogether. "I try not to read too much online because I always get my feelings hurt, even if someone's flattering you."

"The amount of Instagram selfies seems crazy out-of-control," Poehler said in an interview with Paper Magazine in 2013. "Pictures [used to be] an addition to the experience. Now the picture is the experience."

However, Poehler's nonprofit, Amy Poehler's Smart Girls, does have a presence on Twitter and Instagram.

Her frequent co-star and longtime friend, Tina Fey, stays away from social media just as much. Fey also once said to Entertainment Tonight she would only join social media when she was able to show her nipples. "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston has said she stays off of social media simply to maintain her sanity. "Now you have social media and you’ve added this extra pressure of seeing if someone likes or doesn’t like something you did," Aniston told Vogue in 2017. "We’re creating these man-made challenges and it’s a such a drag."

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch's reasons for avoiding social media have more to do with the fact he thinks he would be a "disaster" online. "It would just consume me and I find that whole thing ultimately very toxic," Cumberbatch told People in 2016. "I’d much rather spend my energy doing what brought me to their attention in the first place, which is my work.”

Actress Mila Kunis has also voiced her views about the downsides of social media, which is why she hasn't created any accounts. Kate Winslet hasn't minced her words about the negativity of social media, and has referred to it as "the single most damaging place for a young woman to spend her time." As an incredibly public figure, like actress Emma Stone, the level of scrutiny and desire for perfection is amplified on social media. "It wouldn’t be a positive thing for me," Stone told ELLE. "If people can handle that sort of output and input in the social media sphere, power to them."

Scarlett Johansson says any fan theories that her 'Avengers' character is still alive after 'Endgame' are wrong

Scarlett Johansson recently shut down theories that her beloved "Avengers" character, Black Widow, will come back to life after the events of "Endgame."

"Honestly, it brought a closure to me that I needed," Johansson said of her upcoming "Black Widow" solo movie on NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Monday. "'Cause I was kind of wiped out after that last one — I mean, emotionally and literally."

Black Widow leaped to her death in "Endgame" when she sacrificed herself for Hawkeye on the planet Vormir, allowing him to get the Soul Stone.

Despite the character's heroic end, however, Johansson said that many "Avengers" fans refuse to believe Black Widow actually died.

"There's very few certain things, but definitely death's pretty certain, right? Yeah, definitely, for sure," she told Fallon. "But, people… they definitely don't believe it and have tried to convince me that my character did not actually die, but that maybe my character exists in an alternate universe — but no, I think death is a pretty final thing."

This theory hearkens back to "Avengers: Infinity War," when Thanos threw Gamora off the very same cliff in order to secure the Soul Stone. Many fans felt certain that Gamora would return for "Endgame," and so they theorized that she was trapped in the Soul Stone, rather than simply dead.

In fact, "Infinity War" director Joe Russo confirmed the theory that Gamora's soul was trapped inside the stone, and she did end up playing a major role in "Endgame"— but not because she was brought back to life.

Instead, Gamora came back into the fold when the Avengers discovered how to time travel. But, based on Johansson's statement, it's unlikely they'll use the same technology to bring a version of Black Widow from the past into the present.

Johansson's solo movie, slated for a 2020 release, will be a prequel that dives into the mysterious assassin's origin story.

Chris Evans says "never say never" to reprising his role as Captain America/Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but "it can't be a cash grab."

"It's not a hard no, but it's not an eager yes either," Evans said during a conversation with costar Scarlett Johansson for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series.

Evans, who stars in the new Rian Johnson-directed movie "Knives Out" and an upcoming Apple series called "Defending Jacob," added: "There are other things that I'm working on right now."

The 38-year-old actor starred in films like "Not Another Teen Movie" and the original "Fantastic Four" franchise before landing his role as Captain America. Evans previously turned down the part twice and made his debut as the superhero from Brooklyn in 2011's "Captain America: The First Avenger." He's portrayed the leader in several MCU films since then and his story line came to an end in 2019's blockbuster film "Avengers: Endgame."

At the end of movie, Steve traveled back in time to return the Infinity Stones to their respective destinations. After completing the mission, he stuck around to marry Peggy Carter and live out a happy life with her. When Steve traveled back to the present, the beloved superhero aged and was 106 years old.

He gave his iconic shield to Sam Wilson/Falcon (played by Anthony Mackie), which set up the character's upcoming Disney Plus series with Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

"I think Cap had such a tricky arc to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey," Evans told Johansson. "If you're going to revisit it, it can't be a cash grab. It can't be just because audiences would to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story?"

He added: "A lot of things would have to come together."

Regarding the film's ending, Evans said that "it'd be a shame to sour that."

"I'm very protective of it," he said. "It was such a precious time, and jumping onto the movie was a terrifying prospect to me. I said no a bunch of times, and there's a million and one ways it could have gone wrong and it could have backfired and I could have regretted it. And it didn't happen and to keep on testing that, it almost feels like maybe we should let this one sit."
